—Description from the Super Smash Blog. |
Bandana Waddle Dee was confirmed as a playable fighter during the E3 20XX in June and was featured in a reveal trailer alongside Isaac, Octoling, Waluigi, Crash, and Stylist. His gameplay and moveset was also featured in a “Mr. Sakurai Presents...LIVE!” during the “Treehouse Live” segment following the reveal trailer. This makes the fourth Kirby character in the roster and the first one that represents the modern line of Kirby games.
Kirby retains his typical depiction in the modern Kirby games but made to fit in with the Super Smash Bros. aesthetic. Being a Waddle Dee, he is completely mute so, to balance it out, his spear movement sounds are louder and more exaggerated.
Attributes[]
Bandana Waddle Dee aka Bandana Dee is a rather straight forward character without any notable gimmicks compared to other fighters on the roster but he has a notable amount of uniqueness that sets him apart. His primary uniqueness is the spear that he wields in battle which gives him unparalleled reach and distance. While his overall height reduces his potential somewhat, his spear more than makes up for it. In terms of stats, Bandana Dee is very light which makes him particularly weak against powerful attacks but his ability to keep himself out of harms way with distanced disjointed attacks plays in his favor. His spear gives him not only extendable reach but, like Marth’s Falchion tipper, he can do more damage with a sweetspot at the tip of the spear. This also allows Bandana Dee to cancel out attacks that may damage him without the drawback of putting him in harms way. He also utilized a parasol in battle for a number of his attacks. The parasol grants him the ability to shield weak to mid-range damage attacks.
That being said, he does have a fair share of weaknesses including his diminutive stature and his lightweight. While his attacks have a sweetspot, it’s difficult to Land them correctly. Bandana Dee has a high learning curve for this reason despite his overall simple design. Aside from these, Bandana Dee also has a rather slow dash and walk speed thanks to his small size, large feet, and oversized spear but he possesses above average aerial stats. Overall, Bandana Dee is a specialized fighter who requires a good amount of practice to play successfully.
