—Description from the Super Smash Blog. |
Crash was confirmed as a playable fighter during the E3 20XX in June and was featured in a reveal trailer alongside Isaac, Bandana Waddle Dee, Octoling, Waluigi, and Stylist. His gameplay and moveset was also featured in a “Mr. Sakurai Presents...LIVE!” during the “Treehouse Live” segment following the reveal trailer. He is the first confirmed third-party character for Infinite.
Crash has a few voice lines this has a wide range of international voice actors but the majority of his sound files involves yelling, shouting, and making silly noises.
Attributes[]
Crash is a lightweight, scrappy fighter who excels at unconventional tactics and strategy to succeed in battle. HE isn’t particularly quick but his walk to dash animation is one of the fastest and allows him to transition between the two quickly. He also had a pretty good jump and airspeed which makes his air game quite good. All in all, he plays similar to Mario where he doesn’t have much strengths or weaknesses which works well for his character design; being a mascot and all. His frame works in his advantage as his height let’s him extend his reach slightly with melee attacks. He could also gain a bit more height in the air thanks to his reach. His attack damage output is decent but a bit subpar to other character’s on the roster. Crash is more of a character that has many light-hitting attacks and very few hard-hitting attacks.
Crash also has several weaknesses; namely his lanky, tall frame and lightweight which makes him and excellent target. Crash is particular susceptible to being launched by particular strong attacks. A well-placed Smash attack is just enough to OHKO him as low as 55% making Crash’s survivability rather weak. This is coupled with his sub-par damage output and his reliance on his heavy-hitting attacks which are very few. Crash also has a deceptively slow dash which, while can be a strength, also a hinderance for those playing a “hit and run” strategy. Crash is good with many things but also weak in other areas which makes for a rather balanced fighter who needs to use this balance to his advantage in order to place well in Smash.
His appearance is derived from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time with a few design influences from his earlier games as well. Crash in particular has a wide range of expressions and emotions that he demonstrates through his game model. This attribute was discussed in detail by Masahiro Sakurai who went to explain that Crash was the reason why so many of the cast has more exaggerated and detailed expressions compared to Ultimate. Fake Crash also appears as an alternate costume but the narrator will still announce this as “Crash.”
