Hakurei Shrine is a new stage from the Touhou Project series.

Stage Overview[]

The stage consists of the shrine building with a large pillar on the middle platform and dozens of cameos. Players stand on the roof of the shrine and 2 other trees appear as additional platforms to stand on. Sometimes, Fairies will fly in the background and deliver food on-stage for players to heal.

With hazards on, occasionally one of the characters will activate a spell card and many projectiles will be fired down onto the stage, depending on the Spell Card.

The characters that could activate a Spell Card are (they still stand in the background with the rest, but sometimes they activate a Spell Card):

  • Yukari Yakumo
  • Flandre Scarlet
  • Sakuya Izayoi
  • Junko
  • Marisa Kirisame
  • Utsuho Reiuji

The rest of the cameos are:

  • Youmu Konpaku
  • Alice Margatroid
  • The Prismriver Sisters
  • Reisen Udongein Inaba
  • Cirno
  • Sanae Kochiya
  • Aya Shameimaru
  • Koishi Komeiji
  • Patchouli Knowledge
  • Nitori Kawashiro
  • Remilia Scarlet
  • Eirin Yagokoro
  • Saki Kurokoma
  • Momiji Inubashiri
  • Suwako Moriya
  • Tenshi Hinanawi
  • Suika Ibuki
  • Yuyuko Saigyouji
  • Wriggle Nightbug
  • Wakasagihime
  • Hong Meiling
  • Fujiwara no Mokou
  • Clownpiece
  • Kanako Yasaka

Six cameos can appear on the stage, one of them being using a Spell Card, though they can be KO'd to end their attack early. The Spell Card effects are:

  • Shikigami "Ran Yakumo": Yukari appears above the Shrine and Ran Yakumo jumps from platform to platform, sending projectiles downwards. Ran can be KO'd, but if a player touches her while she is jumping, they will take damage.
  • Taboo "Lävatein": Flandre appears in the middle of a stage and a large beam emits from her, circleing around the stage.
  • Illusion World "The World": Sakuya stands on the shrine platform, slowing down time as projectiles slowly spawn and fire at fighters.
  • "Simple Danmaku for Cornering a Trapped Rat": Junko hovers above the Shrine and sends rows of homing projectiles onto fighters.
  • Love Sign "Master Spark": Marisa flies above the stage on her broom, shooting a large beam into the middle of a stage and randomly firing star-shaped projectiles around the stage.
  • Atomic Fire "Uncontainable Nuclear Reaction": Utsuho stands on the middle platform, as a Siren plays and 4 massive projectiles are fired from Utusho and smaller homing projectiles are fired from the larger projectiles.

Omega and Final Destination versions of the stage keeps the exact same background, just the pillar is smaller.

Origin[]

This stage is based on the same-named small, run-down Shinto shrine located in Gensokyo, which appeared in every official Touhou game and is the home of Reimu Hakurei. It's also a hangout place for all the other girls who Reimu and company defeated in the course of the series. Very few humans come to this shrine, and even fewer (if anyone at all) leave donations.
